Module diary#

With the unusual flipped format of this module you will need to take a little more responsibility for organising your time. To help, this page will summarise the tasks for each week including a reminder of upcoming deadlines and a description of the videos to review.

Week 6#

  • Attend Q&A drop-in session on MS Teams on Monday at 1pm. We will discuss the applied team project, the session will be recorded.

  • Read the instructions for the applied team project on Moodle/JupyterHub, meet with your team and begin work on it.

  • Watch the week 6 videos on piecewise interpolation and spline interpolation

  • Complete Tutorial 6 on spline interpolation supported by attendance at the laboratory tutorial sessions.

  • Submit the practical for marking by 9am Monday 6th March.

  • Read feedback from practical 4 posted to MMS.

  • Return here toward the end of week 6 to review tasks for week 7.

Week 5#

  • Attend Q&A drop-in session on MS Teams on Monday at 1pm.

  • Watch the week 5 videos on linear interpolation and polynomial interpolation

  • Complete Tutorial on interpolation supported by attendance at the laboratory tutorial sessions.

  • Complete the mid-semester survey

  • Submit the practical for marking by 9am Monday 20th February.

  • Read feedback from practical 3 posted to MMS.

  • Return here toward the end of week 5 to review tasks for week 6.

Week 4#

  • Attend Q&A drop-in session on MS Teams on Monday at 1pm.

  • Watch the week 4 videos on Computational Geometry, Graham scan algorithm and Introduction to Pandas and read through the accompanying notebooks.

  • Complete practical 4 on the Graham scan algorithm supported by attendance at the laboratory tutorial sessions and the video above. Please watch the video before attending the tutorial session.

  • Submit the practical for marking by 9am Monday 13th February.

  • Read feedback from practical 2 posted to MMS.

  • Attempt the fourth Moodle quiz.

  • Return here toward the end of week 4 to review tasks for week 5.

Week 3#

  • Attend Q&A drop-in session on MS Teams on Monday at 1pm.

  • Watch the week 3 videos on Computational Complexity, Good Practise part 1 and Good Practise Part 2 and read through the accompanying notebooks.

  • Complete practical 3, part 2 on the Fibonacci numbers supported by attendance at the laboratory tutorial sessions.

  • Submit the practical for marking by 9am Monday 6th February.

  • Attempt the third Moodle quiz.

  • Return here toward the end of week 3 to review tasks for week 4.

Week 2#

  • Attend Q&A drop-in session on MS Teams on Monday at 1pm.

  • Watch the week 2 videos on Computational Thinking, sympy and interactivity and read through the accompanying notebooks.

  • Complete practical 2 on the Fibonacci numbers supported by attendance at the laboratory tutorial sessions.

  • Submit the practical for marking by 9am Monday 30th January, please note that this work is for credit.

  • Attempt the second Moodle quiz.

  • Return here toward the end of week 2 to review tasks for week 3.

Week 1#

  • Watch the module introduction video.

  • Familiarise yourself with the JupyterHub (link on Moodle) and the content that appears there.

  • Review all of the content in Chapter 1: The Fundamentals which should be revision from 2000 level.

  • Watch any accompanying videos for Chapter 1 that you feel you need to via the module Panopto channel.

  • Attempt the first Moodle quiz.

  • Complete the practical on the simple pendulum supported by attendance at the laboratory tutorial sessions.

  • Submit the practical for marking by 9am next Monday (23rd January) (not for credit this week).

  • Return here toward the end of week 1 to review tasks for week 2.
